Texas Child Support Lawyers
Kingwood | Sugar Land | Houston
Child support in Texas is determined by charts and formulas that determine how much support you must pay (or are entitled to receive) based on the payer's net income. However, the judge can order higher child support based on factors such as the child's needs or the amount of separate property the payer has.
Most lawyers are not aggressive in handling the issue of child support. However, at the law firm of Martin & Lilly, our family law attorneys will work to maximize the support you receive and minimize the support you have to pay. The guidelines amounts are:
- 20 percent of net income for one child
- 25 percent of net income for two children
- 30 percent of net income for three children
- 35 percent of net income for four or more children
Net income is gross earnings after Social Security, federal income tax based on the standard deduction for one person, and your child's medical insurance premium have been deducted.
Texas courts have continuing jurisdiction over child support, and the amount of child support can be modified later on if there is a significant change in the payer's earnings.
