Following a divorce, Texas courts have continuing jurisdiction over child custody issues, including relocation. While the judge can't prevent a parent from moving, it can stop a parent from moving a child. The judge can also order a change in child custody if a parent moves without court approval.
Texas courts consider parental relocations on a case-by-case basis, based on factors such as the best interests of the child and the reason for the move. If the custodial parents has a good reason for the move (such as a relocation for a job, a remarriage or to live closer to family members) then the court is more likely to approve it.
